I have a 2022 Tucson with 39,000 miles. Dealership said I’m in desperate need of tires. Was quoted over $1100. Is this what the market has come to? Or should I shop around? I’m also skeptical with the dealership as she said she would only recommend I replace 3 tires. I’ve never heard of only doing 3.
Sounds like the dealer is taking you for a ride. Theres zero point only replacing 3 tires and if 1 of them is wearing way different than the rest you’ve got an alignment problem. Be sure to check your treadwear yourself so you know when you truly need tires.
3 tires for a Tucson should be nowhere near $1100. High quality tires for your car are gonna be like $200-250 per tire if you have the 19 inch wheels. Installation fees are usually around $100 in my area.

Everything you said is correct except for saying their prices are so off. Remember I’m sure that’s in out the door number. And most places charge $169 for an alignment as far as dealerships go. If you factor that in, it’s not far off.
Not to mention, I have a feeling the Opie may have misunderstood them. The service manager here for a dealership for over 10 years and I’ve never heard of anyone being dumb enough from an advisor standpoint to tell someone they only need three new tires. But who knows, anything is possible

I just paid discount tire $1200+ for 4 new tires on an ioniq 5. I probably should have gone to hyundai directly because they quoted me $840 for tires and $150 (iirc) for an alignment, I’m still going to have to get the alignment done and that I will go to hyundai because I also have get info on pricing for a coolant flush. But, discount tire is awesome and does free rotations. They also help people out with free leak repairs even if you didn’t buy from them so I want to and like supporting them.
I paid $500 for an alignment and 2 tires so $1,100 for 3 doesn’t sound to far off… although it is a dealership so Firestone might be cheaper but I’d get all 4, don’t get 3 that’s stupid

Paying $500 for an alignment is ridiculous! I had an alignment done my ‘22 Tucson for $90 at a local tire shop. Works just as good as if the dealership had done it.

Well, it was $550 for a alignment and my front tires, the alignment was $100
Dealerships are the worst place to get things like tires as they always mark up more than your regular tire shop.
Honestly once your warranty is done there’s almost zero reason to use their service departments.

Absolutely true. I did take my granddaughters 07 Civic Hybrid to a dealer to diagnose an electrical problem that indie shops couldn’t figure out, but that has been the only exception.

That’s actually not true at all. The one thing dealerships make absolutely zero money on his tires. They all have contracts with every tire company and tire websites like dealertire.com. you’re going to find them for pretty much the same price anywhere else. The only difference is places like just tires or discount tire for example will throw things like alignments in for free and free tire rotations and Air and free patching for things like nails in tires. But the actual price on tires is pretty much the same.
New tires at 39k miles?!? Dealership is taking advantage of you! I just hit 55k miles on my ‘22 Tucson and tires are just fine. When I went for my 48k mile service, nothing was mentioned about tires. I’ll have to see what they say at my 56k mile service.
Means the service saleswoman still wants to get a cut even if they don’t have the stocks. 3 tires are just nuts.

Tire rack my friend. Not sure what size your wheels are; but order from them and drop shop them at a recommended installer. And just 3 tires is a crock of hullabaloo (unless a nail was in a specific tire etc. and the tread depth is legit).
I’ve done this about 15 yrs and have never had an install issue. Can’t guarantee they’ll be a bunch cheaper - but it’s my go-to.

You better look at them number on the side of the tire and search around on the internet first yourself I bought 5 brand new tires for under $400 don’t fall victim being overcharged by dealerships bro. If they can screw anybody over they will.

Take a quarter, turn it upside down and place it on a groove that goes around the tire. Crouch and look at it straight on. If you can’t see the top of Washington’s head, you have more than 4/32" of tread left. The legal minimum is 2/32", which would be the top of Lincoln’s head.
Get tires from a shop like discount tire. It is much cheaper. 39k might be right, because OEM factory tires wear faster than normal, but you should check your tread depth first.
BTW if you have AWD, you cannot replace single tires unless they shave it down. You must replace all four or you will damage the drive train.
Tires can be expensive. $1100 may not be abnormal for the trash Kumho tires it comes with. But you can get much better tires for cheaper. I spent $800 on a new set of all seasons. And they have the 3PSF logo and they work great in the snow.

I’ve owned Subarus for 20 years. There is no need to replace all 4 if only one is bad. 2, yes if the other is very worn but doing all 4 is a waste of money. I never had any drive train issues by replacing just 1 or 2.

Right I don’t think I conveyed it well. If your shop shaves your tires, 1 or 2 is fine. If you need 3, might as well go for the 4th.

I had my tires and an alignment done on my mercedes for less than that at the dealer. They are playing you. I would google a tire / alignment center near you with good reviews and just go there.
