2020 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid getting low mpg

I’ve had the car for 1.5 years and it only has 13K miles. I drive about 400 miles a month, and it runs fine, but…

Starting in the summer, the solar panel didn’t seem to be charging the battery as well as before, and the mpg slipped to the mid-40s.

Then, in September, the mileage dropped to 40 mpg and has stayed there for 3 or 4 tankfuls.

I just took it to the dealership, but they say there are no error codes, so there’s nothing they can do.

I called the US consumer number and started a ticket with Hyundai.

Has anyone else had this problem before?

I recently purchased a 2024 Chevy Hybrid Sport, and I don’t think it gets very good gas mileage. Well, I’m coming from a Prius, but still. However, the hybrid component doesn’t seem to be very useful.

I had a similar issue with my car a while back. I’ve had mine for about 2 years, and I also drive around 400 miles a month. Everything was great until last summer when I noticed my solar panel wasn’t charging the battery as efficiently. My MPG started dropping too.

At first, it went from the high 50s to the mid-40s, and by fall, it dropped to around 40 MPG and stayed there. I took it to the dealership multiple times, but like you, they couldn’t find any error codes or issues to fix.

Frustrated, I decided to call the manufacturer’s customer service and opened a ticket. They eventually sent a specialist to check my car. It turned out that the solar panel had a minor fault, and they replaced it under warranty. My MPG went back to normal after that.

I’d recommend staying persistent with Hyundai and pushing for a more thorough inspection. Sometimes, it just takes the right technician to find the issue. Good luck!
