I just got my 2025 Tucson Hybrid Ultimate. I’ve driven about 300 km, and the fuel economy isn’t great—around 11-14 L/100 km. The rating is much lower. Does anyone know if it gets better with more mileage?
Have you driven a hybrid before? Besides the break-in period, there’s a learning curve for getting the best fuel efficiency. The electric motor kicks in during certain situations. Keep an eye on it, and you’ll figure out how to make the most of it. It took me about a year before I started getting the advertised fuel economy.

This is my first hybrid, so I’ll keep an eye on it and try to get the most out of it. Thanks for the info.

Speeding is bad for hybrids’ fuel economy. Stick to the speed limit, drive in ECO mode, and avoid hard acceleration. You’ll get around 6.5 L/100 km after the break-in period.
I have a 2025 Tucson Ultimate too, and you’re still in the break-in period. After my second fill-up, I started getting the advertised numbers.

That’s good to hear. I’ll be patient.

No problem. During my first 500 km, I averaged 10-11 L/100 km. Now, I’m at 6-6.8 L/100 km.

I have a 2023 model. I drive 40 km to and from work daily, half city and half highway. I consistently get around 6.5 - 7 L/100 km, and that’s with all-terrain tires. I’m at 45,000 km now.
I’m getting 6.5 L/100 km (about 36 mpg) without doing anything special. I have the 2024 Blue trim and have 8,000 km on it.
I’ve got 6,000 km on mine, and fuel economy is still not great. On the highway at 140 km/h, I get around 9 L/100 km, and when I drove at 170-180 km/h, it went up to 12 L/100 km. I average about 7 L/100 km outside the city, and in the city, it really varies—sometimes as low as 3-4 L/100 km, but usually 6-8 L/100 km.
I’m not happy with the fuel economy. I have the 1.6T 215 hp FHEV, and my other gas car is better for fuel in all scenarios. I like the Tucson for the space, comfort, and overall feel, but the fuel economy is a letdown. My old family car, a Mercedes E-Class, had better numbers.

Hybrids are really for city driving, not for speeding down highways. Sedans will also always have better mileage than a heavy SUV.

I get that, even though they’re about the same weight. The E-Class isn’t light, but its aerodynamics are better since it’s a sedan. I just expected more in the city. 6-8 L/100 km is much more than advertised. Usually, there’s a 1-2 L difference from the rating, but getting 7 L/100 km when it’s supposed to be 3.8-5.6 L/100 km is disappointing. That’s my experience, though others might have different results. For me, the car just isn’t great for fuel economy, and that was one of the main reasons I bought it.
To get good mileage in the city, you need at least half a battery charge. You have to try to force EV mode whenever possible—accelerate to get moving, then let off the gas and quickly press it again when EV mode turns on. Once the battery gets down to 25%, drive it harder so the engine charges it back up, then repeat.
We got our Ultimate Hybrid about three weeks ago. As of last night, we have 722 km on it, and the fuel gauge shows 241 km left. I’ve been impressed with the fuel economy so far.
Check out www.tucson-forum.com for lots of good tips. Fuel economy is a big topic there. There are many factors to consider, like driving style (fast acceleration, heavy braking), hilly terrain, speed, weather, and the type of gas you use. Take a look at the forum.
