The A/C speed control in my car gradually stopped working, and last night I decided to inspect the control unit. The dial had no resistance and wasn’t turning on or changing the speed. Upon inspection, I found that the back of the dial was not connected to the control unit. It looks like there was a short or electrical feedback that melted both the female and male connectors, along with some of the internals of the dial.
I know I need a new A/C control unit, but should I also take the car somewhere to have the blower motor speed and ground wires checked or replaced? Or do you think the wires will be fine as they are? Any advice would be appreciated.
You may purchase a pigtail connection to replace the charred piece. I believe the controller has also burned. I’d also check the fuses to ensure they’re not faulty and allowing too much electricity to pass.
Given the melted connectors and damage, it’s wise to have both the A/C control unit replaced and the blower motor speed and ground wires inspected. Electrical issues can cause further damage if not addressed, so checking the wiring ensures everything functions correctly and prevents future problems.
