Anyone else seeing this smoke issue?

Yes, it’s a 2022 Sonata hybrid.

Okay, so the tank in your image is for the battery system. The engine coolant tank (which could be leaking) is round and located here image

How do I check the coolant level? Can I top it up myself, or should I go to a service center?

Check the manual. It should cover simple things like this.

Looks like water vapor, which is normal when the engine is cold. If it’s oil burn, the smoke will have a blue tint.

Or it could mean the catalytic converter is wearing out.

@madisonwilson
Thanks, that clears it up.

It could be one of these:

  1. A coolant leak

  2. Normal vapor from the catalytic converter

  3. Water mixed with low-quality fuel

Understood.

No problem here. Also, maybe clean your windshield?

Oops, that’s actually my friend’s car :joy:

If it’s below freezing, it’s normal. But if it’s 10 degrees and still smoking for more than a few minutes, that’s unusual.

Got it. I’ll keep an eye on it.

Is it cold outside?

Yeah, it’s about 10 degrees Celsius.

That’s steam, not smoke. Smoke doesn’t disappear that quickly.

Got it, thanks.

Nothing wrong with the smoke.

Thanks for the reassurance.
