I’m dealing with an issue on my 2023 Hyundai Elantra Hybrid and need advice. Has anyone else been through something like this?
I bought my Elantra Hybrid in April 2023. After about 5-6 months, the ‘Check Hybrid System’ warning started popping up. I took it to the dealer, and they cleared the code and blamed my dash cam for causing the problem. But later that day, the warning came back. I went back to the dealer, and they just erased the code again and sent me home. The same thing kept happening.
The dealership eventually replaced my brake pedal, but the problem returned a week later. I’ve been to the dealer at least 6-7 times, and the car still has issues with less than 15,000 miles on it after only 5 months.
I started talking to Hyundai when the car had about 26,000 miles, and they agreed to buy it back. I waited almost 3 months for them to finalize the process, and their offer was only $4,769. I’ve paid a total of $15,726, including my down payment, over the last 16 months. I feel like their offer is really unfair. Hyundai gave me two choices: keep the car and they’ll pay me $8,000, or sell it back to them for what they offered.
I think I should get back everything I’ve paid. My brakes have failed twice, which is a serious issue. I’m considering finding a Lemon Law lawyer since I live in Massachusetts. Any thoughts on this? Should I get a lawyer, and do you think there’s a chance I can get all my money back?
I had the same issue with my 2021 hybrid. Took a while to get fixed. The latest update they did seemed to solve it - it had something to do with the battery running at too high of a voltage all the time.
Not sure if this helps with your case, but if getting a lawyer feels like a hassle, I can share info on what updates worked for me. Good luck!

Lemon Law it and ask for a replacement instead of a buyback, if your state allows that.
I really just want my money back at this point. I don’t want another car. Do you think it’s possible to get back everything I’ve paid, including the monthly payments and down payment? Hyundai’s offer is based on mileage depreciation.

No, even with a Lemon Law buyback, you wouldn’t get all your money back. The mileage deduction is standard. Your best bet might be getting a replacement and selling it privately to get closer to what you’ve spent.
