Do you always keep your mechanical key on your key fob? The plastic sleeve keeps slipping off, and I don’t want to lose it. I’m thinking about not carrying it, but then I wouldn’t have access if I needed it. What do you guys do?
I always keep it with the fob. It would be way better if they just built it in instead of making it separate, but here we are.

My fob (from the year before they changed the design) actually has the mechanical key built in. I like the layout better too, even if it doesn’t have the Hyundai logo.
@Matt
I don’t think I’ve met anyone who likes that egg-shaped fob. It takes a decent design and makes it worse.
@Matt
I have the same one, and I actually like it.

I can take the key out to unlock the door, but once I’m inside, where do I even put it to start the car? I checked the manual and found nothing.

It’s just to get inside if the battery dies. There’s no keyhole to start the car.

You just hold the fob against the start button.

It’s just for opening the door if your battery is dead so you can pop the hood and jump-start it.
@Braint
I have the same fob but haven’t found anywhere to insert the key. If it’s just for touching against the door and start button, why does it even come out?

Bad design choice, probably just to save money.
I keep mine with my keys, but the sleeve kept coming off, so I used a tiny dab of E6000 glue where the key locks in. Holds it well but should still come off if I really need it. Haven’t tested taking it off again, but hopefully, I never have to.
@Faithjones
That’s a solid fix. Might try it.
Why didn’t they just make it a switchblade-style key in the fob? Oh right, because that would cost more.
Always carry it. You never know when you’ll need it.
So Hyundai looked at an egg, said ‘yes,’ and designed this mess? It’s supposed to reduce the number of keys, yet they added a separate one that isn’t even built in? Make it make sense…

Yeah, stuff like this is making me think twice about upgrading my 2016 Santa Fe to a newer Hyundai. Small thing, but it would drive me crazy.
I designed a 3D-printed holder that integrates the key. I’ll upload it to Thingiverse for free soon.

That sounds awesome. Definitely interested.
