Does anyone know which screwdriver I should use to remove these screws?

I’ve got some screws on my car’s undercover shield that I need to remove. Anyone know the right tool?

Looks like M5 Hex Heads to me. Definitely not rivets – those undercover shields are made to come off for servicing.

Pretty sure it’s a standard hex head driver you need.

Agree with the others… hex head driver should work.

Thanks for the advice, everyone. Turns out they’re actually rivets, according to the car’s service manual.

Those are rivets. You’ll need to drill them out.

So how would I reattach them after drilling?

Don’t listen to that advice lol – they’re bolts. Just use Allen wrenches, sockets, or keys. Definitely don’t drill them out.

@merrickzedeck
Wait a sec… just noticed the holes are circular. I take back my advice.

You’d just need new rivets and a rivet gun. Or if you prefer, small screws, washers, and nuts.

I think you could use bolts instead, might save you some trouble.

They look more like rivets than screws. What exactly are they holding?

They’re attached to this part I’m trying to replace. Here’s a pic: https://imgur.com/a/SmQoLkf.

@Christopher
Yeah, definitely rivets. You’ll need to drill them out and either put in new rivets or find screws and nuts that fit.

Are you sure you should be working on a car?

Why do you say that?

If you’re not familiar with fastener types, you might want to take it to a mechanic instead.

@klausmark2
People should be able to figure things out on their own, especially with non-mechanical parts like the undercover shield. Who knows – maybe this helps them get more interested in car work.
