Does My Hyundai Have an Engine Immobilizer?

How can I determine if my car has an immobilizer? I own a 2015 Hyundai Elantra, and according to the manual, it’s equipped with an immobilizer. However, I’m uncertain. To test it, I removed the fob (the part with the buttons) and tried starting the car with just the physical key, and it worked. The car was manufactured in Alabama.

Hyundai states that as of November 1, 2021, all newly manufactured models come equipped with immobilizers as standard. However, certain trim levels of older models might lack this feature. Regrettably, not all Hyundai vehicles are equipped with an engine immobilizer, leaving some cars and SUVs without this vital anti-theft system. The immobilizer serves to authenticate that the key used to start the engine is the correct one.
