Which one would you say is the best of them two based on mpg, reliability, comfort, and maintenance? I commute an hour and 30 minutes a day. Thank you!! I meant to say Elantra sorry!
Have a 22 Elantra SEL and my commute is 290 miles of freeway a week. My mpg is normally 50+.

I just bought the 2024 SEL Elantra; I love it. Great value for a car, got it for $14,800.
Elantra Hybrid Blue is one of the best bargains in the entire car market.
I’d go with comfort. You’re in your car a lot. The Sonata is going to be way more comfortable over longer periods.
All boils down to your budget, but I normally like good mileage, tech, and features, so I usually buy the highest trim!
I love my Elantra but I’m open to getting a Sonata on my next car.
How tall are you and how often will you have tall people in your car?
I did the math back in the day when I was choosing between my Elantra and a Sonata. The Sonata is only a couple inches longer and has about 8 inches extra leg room for the front, but the back has significantly less. So overall the math worked out that the Elantra had more leg room for front and back. For what it’s worth, I’m 6 ft and the Elantra has tons of room.
Mpg I average 4L/100 km. I don’t really drive it conservatively. When I do, I can get it as low as 3.6L/100 km. I can’t speak to the Sonata.

I’m 5’7 I’m a short king but thank you for your input!!
@Victor0
The back has less legroom because the front seat has more travel. I think behind the same height driver, you’d have the same or more rear seat legroom in the Sonata. The Sonata is about 10 inches longer, and is also longer than my previous car by 10 inches. I went from 24” of wiggle room lengthwise in my garage to only 14” and that is annoying.
Elantra.
My 120,000 mi Elantra GT (2013) finally got new plugs; now gets 32.5 MPG highway. I’m 6’1, 220 lb, and it fits me like an expensive glove! Sound system is amazing for a subcompact base model… I’m getting buried in this car!
I live in LA; it can get quite hot here so ventilated seats are a must for me. So Sonata top trim is my only option. The top trim comes with parking sensors so it’s easier for me to parallel park in tight spots.
