Idle stop and go problems… why would this happen?

Hello, we have a 2021 Palisade Ultimate Calligraphy. When we first got it from the dealership, it would shut off the engine at a stoplight and restart when the brake was released. Then, out of nowhere, it stopped doing it. (Yes, I know where the on/off button is.) Has anyone else had this happen, or know what could cause it?
Thanks! :two_hearts:
(Picture of the car looking like an ad :sweat_smile:)

I wish I had this issue… I can’t stand stop/start. But it won’t work if the battery is low or if it’s too hot or cold. Mine does this off and on.

:joy: My husband says the same thing. The kids like the sound when it restarts, but I just want to make sure the car doesn’t end up breaking down on us.

@Lashun
You should probably have the battery checked. Most places like AutoZone can do it for free. The car checks the battery level before deciding if it can stop while idling.

I’m renting an XC60 right now, and its stop/start system is so smooth compared to my car. It makes me wish mine worked better.

Lol, same here .

This happened to us too. It turned out the battery was getting low, and once we replaced it, the stop/start worked again.

Thanks! That’s frustrating since we just bought the car used. I might go back and see if the dealership will help.

@Lashun
You should definitely ask. They replaced ours for free when we took it in.

There are a lot of things that can stop the system from working. For example, if it’s hot and the AC is on, or if you don’t fully press the brake. Sometimes it’s just a system glitch. You might want to check the owner’s manual or have the dealership take a look.

@MissNicklaus
Exactly. The manual lists all the conditions for it to work. I’d post them here, but I don’t have mine with me.

@MissNicklaus
Thank you! I guess it could be because we’ve been running the heat. I’ll still check with the dealership since we haven’t had it long.

It also won’t work when it’s too cold outside.

That makes sense. It’s really cold here now, and I guess using the heater might be draining the battery too.

Our 2022 does this too. It worked once when we got it, but now the light just stays on at stops. I think the battery isn’t strong enough anymore. The dealership said it passed their test but needed charging. Luckily, our battery is still under warranty for a few more months, so I’m hoping it fails soon so they’ll replace it. If yours is from 2021, it might not be covered, but it’s worth asking.

@Tracy
We extended the warranty for two more years, so maybe it’s covered! I’ll call tomorrow to find out. Thanks for the advice.

We have a 2021 SEL Premium, and the start/stop doesn’t work on ours either.

That’s so annoying. It’s just like, ‘oh well, doesn’t work’ :joy:

Right? I’m taking it in soon for some other issues, so I’ll mention this too.

@TheOneHyundaiGuru
We had the same issue, and the dealership couldn’t find anything wrong. Turns out we were only taking short trips, and the battery didn’t charge enough for the system to work. Once we took a long drive, it started working again.
