Hey everyone! I stumbled upon this Instagram post and, not gonna lie, I’m lowkey obsessed with it. If this car actually made it to production, I’d be all over it .
For those who don’t want to open IG, I’ve attached the photos and caption from the post below. Check it out… IG Caption:
Designers at Korean car company Hyundai have built the Heritage Series Grandeur, a modernized, all-electric version of its 1980s saloon car. The carmaker kept the first generation Grandeur’s original boxy shape while adding features such as pixel-style LED headlights and taillights.
“We’re celebrating the 35th anniversary of our 1986 Hyundai Grandeur flagship sedan with an electrifying retro concept. With an electric powertrain and all-new light and sound features, the Heritage Series Grandeur will seduce you with its '80s nostalgia, cutting-edge technology, and luxurious interior. This project, led by our interior design team, was carried out on a genuine first-generation Grandeur. This first model holds so much symbolism for us as a brand and for our fans who grew up with these cars.”
They took the first-gen Grandeur and gave it the Ioniq treatment. It annoys me that journalists act like Hyundai didn’t make cars in the '80s. They say things like ‘the Ioniq 5 looks like a Lancia Delta’ or 'this concept car is inspired by the ‘80s,’ but they’re missing the point …it’s Hyundai’s own classic designs.
Do they make a station wagon? I’d love an electric version of that. It would be awesome if they could add a third row of seats, maybe by stretching out the Ioniq 5. Just wishful thinking, though.
