Is it worth waiting for Thanksgiving for deals

I am currently renting a car and looking to buy one. I am considering the Palisade, Telluride, or Pilot. Do you think it’s better to wait for Black Friday deals?

In my experience, cars don’t really have Black Friday deals.

I would also advise staying away from the Honda Pilot. It’s not as reliable as people think.

What about end of month deals?

@Amelia
I got nearly $7k off MSRP on October 31 in the Southwest. I recommend going on the morning of November 30 for the best deals.

@Amelia
End of month and end of year are usually the best times to negotiate. The problem with Kia/Hyundai right now is that sales are doing really well. But I got a great deal on my Palisade Calligraphy AWD for $51,500 OTD. It took some work because many dealers wouldn’t move from their website prices, but it was worth it. You may do better later in November.

@Donna
How did you manage to get that deal? I’m looking to trade my 2018 Chevy Traverse with 145,000 miles.

I followed Car Edge and Delivrd for tips. I emailed a lot of dealers, and I was flexible about traveling to get the car. I ended up having it shipped from a dealer in Illinois for $850. It was still a good deal even with the shipping cost.

@Donna
I’m in Northern MN too. The dealers here aren’t great!

@Donna
Thanks for sharing. The Calligraphy for $51.5k is an awesome deal .

Thanks! I was lucky, especially since the dealer had it for almost 90 days.

@Donna
I got a similar deal. I paid around $51.5k OTD for a white/napa tan interior Palisade. It came with some extras like a roof rack and cargo cover I didn’t need, but I got them to discount it. I also got a $3,500 match from another dealer and an additional $500 for military. I traded in my 2016 Santa Fe with 65k miles for $13k, so I ended up paying $28k with no financing.

@Donna
Is that price OTD before taxes and fees?

It’s before tax, title, and license, because I bought it from out of state, and my state doesn’t have reciprocity.

Why would you say that about the Pilot?

@PeterJames4
Pilots from 2017 and later are known to have transmission issues. My 2017 was on its third transmission by 67k miles, and I had to spend about $17k on repairs before 100,000 miles. It’s just not a reliable vehicle.

Regarding the Honda Pilot, be aware of the strong engine braking. It kicks in too early when you let go of the gas pedal, and it’s way too harsh.

Are you sure you’ll save enough if you’re still paying for a rental?

That’s something I’ve been considering. I’m currently paying $350 a week for the rental, so I hope I’m making the right decision. These cars are so expensive.

@Amelia
Waiting until Thanksgiving could cost you almost $1000 in rental fees. I don’t think you’ll get a much better deal then, maybe a little at the end of the month, but the rental fees will probably cancel it out.

@MonicaChesterfield
It looks like I’ll probably end up in that scenario. Thanks for the insight.
