I hit ‘Later’ on the update notification at least twice, turned my car back on and the screen was black with no music.
If you’re only doing short drives like 10 to 15 minutes, it might take a few days to finish downloading. Once it’s done, the install will take about 20 minutes. It installs whether the car is on or off. These are updates for your entertainment system and usually happen once or twice a year. If you want to speed it up, go for a long drive.

I’ve had my 2022 since new, and I’ve only seen one update in about six months.

It might depend on the model. I have a 2024 Tucson I got in May, and this is my third or fourth update.

I just got a 2024 Kona and Sonata like 15 days ago. Both have had 2 updates already.

I bought a 2022 Ioniq 5 in March this year, and it’s had at least 2 updates since then. No idea how many came before that.

I have a 2022 Elantra and haven’t seen a single update yet.

But no one has answered why it happens during a drive?

It happens while the car is on, whether you’re driving or not. You could leave it on in the driveway, and once it’s downloaded, it will install with the car on or off.
I always choose the option to update while parked.

Where I live, we have dead zones with no signal. Trying to download while moving is hit or miss. I’ve seen people download map updates from the website and use a USB, but I’m not sure if system updates work that way. I haven’t seen an option for that.
I’ve never seen an update on my 2020 Palisade. Do I need to enable something?

You have to do it manually. Google ‘Hyundai Navigation Update.’ You’ll need a USB flash drive and a Mac or PC.

Make sure your USB has enough space. Those update files are huge.

I thought it just popped up automatically? My updates always notify me without needing a USB.
How are y’all making it update while you’re driving? My Sonata asked if I wanted to wait until the car was off, and it was done by the time I finished getting gas.
Is this the new system with over-the-air updates?

How does it get the internet for the update?
