A few days ago, my engine started knocking, but it’s strange because it’s not constant. It comes and goes. I drove around for quite a while yesterday and didn’t hear anything. However, when I pulled into my parking garage today, it started making the noise again. If I shut it down and restart, the noise disappears.
The oil is full, and I just changed it five days ago.
Try removing the serpentine belt and run the engine to see if the noise goes away. It could be something in the belt drive.
I had a strange knocking sound in my car too, and it turned out to be the water pump failing.
What’s the mileage on your car?

That might indicate a piston slap. Check this link for more info: https://www.forum.com/s/k68N4ovB3n
@Bright
I don’t think that’s the case since you mentioned the noise is sporadic.
It almost sounds like a diesel engine. Not sure though. When was the last time you changed the oil?
Could the PCV valve be the issue?
Just checking, but is there oil in the engine?
It sounds like a piston issue. I’m thinking there might be a problem with the coil pack or possibly bad wiring.
