My 2020 Elantra not starting

I just stopped to pick up my mom, and when I tried to start the car, it wouldn’t start. I tried almost everything I found online and on YouTube, but nothing worked. I read some forum pages, and the only thing I found was that the battery might be dead. The windows are working even if the key is not in the ignition.

Most likely a dead battery.

You need a new battery.

It probably needs a new battery. Mine died after about 4-5 years, and they told me the original battery doesn’t last that long.

At 4 years old, your battery is definitely the prime suspect! It needs to be replaced, even if it turns out not to be the issue.

Try jumping the car. That’s literally the easiest thing to try.

This seems more like your starter gave out. If you can jump the car, give that a shot first. The starter is more expensive than a battery, and you can change a battery yourself.

A dead giveaway for a bad starter is if you try to start the car and hear no clicking noise. Even if your battery is nearly dead, having enough power to turn on the AC should still make the starter attempt to turn over.

I have a 2017 Elantra Limited, and I replaced the 4th battery today, right after the 3-year warranty. My first two batteries were AGM, and the 3rd and new one are lead acid. My suggestion is, unless you have a good reason to get an AGM, get a cheaper lead acid to save some money. Either one will probably die in about 3 years anyway.

Hire a Kia boy! He’ll get it running!

My question is, why does it say you are going 10 mph though?

I don’t even know. I was planning to bring the car to the dealer on Sunday for that, but that happened. Today, somehow I drove it without any problems, but I still need to check it.

@Rowen
Interesting. Please keep us updated; I’ve never seen anything like that before.

Okay, no problem. I have some work to do, so I’m thinking I will take it on Monday.

@Rowen
Sounds good. Good luck!
