My car is due for its first oil change and I’m wondering if I should go for the free one offered by Hyundai or just have my regular mechanic handle it. Is there a big difference in quality? Would appreciate your thoughts.
Why not just take the free oil change that comes with the car? It’s free after all.

Yeah, true… that makes sense.

They usually use good synthetic oil like Quaker State or Valvoline. I’m taking the free ones while they last, then I’ll switch to what I prefer later. Good oil is good oil.
@CateYN
Got it, thanks for the info!
Reason 1… It’s free. Are you really looking to spend money when you don’t have to?
Reason 2… If you go through Hyundai, you avoid any warranty issues down the line. Better safe than sorry.
Reason 3… Unless you have a reliable mechanic you already trust, why bother looking around? Just take the free service.

Good points. I do have a trustworthy mechanic I’ve been with for years, which is why I was asking. But I guess I’ll try out Hyundai and see how it goes.

Same here. I usually go to a local shop, but I figured the dealership can’t be worse than that.
I did my own oil change at 1000 miles. Then I used the free one at the dealership. They put in full synthetic, but it might depend on your dealership. I’ve got one more free one left before I go back to doing it myself at home.
Just a heads up… During the second oil change, they’ll probably try to get you to pay for extras like replacing the cabin air filter or air filter. Just check your manual and do it yourself before going in. You can get cheap ones at Walmart or Amazon and replace them in minutes without getting dirty.
I didn’t take advantage of all the free oil changes with my last car because the dealership was far and it was a hassle trying to get an appointment on weekends. It was just easier to go to a local place I trusted. But with my current car, I’m making the trip to get the free ones. Not sure how long I’ll keep doing that, though.
Honestly, it probably doesn’t matter much. Both should be fine. If it’s free, why not take it?
Just go with Hyundai. They do so many oil changes every day, it’s routine for them. It’s unlikely they’ll mess it up. Might as well get it done for free.
Hyundai has a bad reputation for being difficult about warranty claims if the car wasn’t serviced by them. Just something to keep in mind.

Thanks for the heads-up. That’s good to know.

I’m dealing with this headache right now. Six-year-old car with major engine failure. No warning lights. They’re blaming oil starvation and want me to buy a brand-new engine. It’s been a nightmare.
