Still waiting on the repair shop… Could it be a total loss?

Does anyone know if a car like mine would be considered a total loss? I’m still waiting on estimates from the repair shop and feeling pretty stressed. Here’s a

How old is the car? A total loss happens when repair costs are more than the car’s value. If the airbags didn’t go off, there’s still a good chance it’s not totaled.

It’s a 2024 Tucson Trend with 19,000 km on it. I’m not sure if the frame is bent.

@James
If the frame’s not damaged, it’s probably not totaled.

@James
That car could still be worth around $20-24k USD. Do you have gap insurance? If you do, it would cover the depreciation, and you wouldn’t lose out if it’s a total loss.

No, I don’t have gap insurance.

@James
That might be tough… Gap insurance is really helpful for new cars in the first few years.

@James
That’s rough… If it’s totaled, you could end up owing more than the payout.

Yeah, and even if they fix it, I’m not sure I’d trust the car anymore.

There’s not much you can do about it now. That’s why gap insurance is important with new cars since you’re often upside down on the loan.

If the frame’s bent, that could total it too.

From what you’ve said, it doesn’t sound like a total loss.

Doesn’t seem like a total loss to me. Might just need a big repair job. Glad you’re okay though, having an SUV probably helped.

It’ll probably depend on how much parts and labour cost, and what the insurance is willing to cover. New cars can be expensive to fix.

Even if they repair it, I just don’t feel safe driving it anymore.

@James
What makes you feel that way?

I’m guessing it might be around $15,000 worth of damage.

Hard to say without seeing the damage.

This forum really needs to stop with all these ‘Is it totaled?’ questions. The insurance company isn’t going to take advice from random people on here over a professional assessment.

My Bluelink app showed something weird this morning: DTC System: Powertrain and DTC Sub System: Engine. Does anyone know what that means?
