I have a 2013 Elantra and really like it, but it’s getting old. I want to upgrade to a newer one, but I refuse to get a model with built-in tracking and data sharing. What’s the newest used Elantra I can buy that doesn’t have this stuff?
Can’t you just not pay for the service? I personally love being able to start my car and lock/unlock it from my phone, but I get that not everyone likes that stuff.

Even if you don’t pay for it, the hardware is still in the car. I haven’t looked into Hyundai specifically, but most companies collect and sell data.
@TaraSimmons
I don’t really care if they do. I just drive to work and back, nothing exciting. At this point, I assume anyone who wants my info already has it.

They probably sell it to insurance companies.
@Robert
Yeah, that’s exactly what some car brands have been caught doing. Not sure about Hyundai specifically, but it’s happening.

My brother-in-law works in commercial real estate, and they buy all kinds of data—traffic patterns, shopping habits, time spent in different locations, everything.

Are you saying this tracking system is optional? Everything I’ve heard says it’s just built-in and always there, even if you don’t use it. I don’t want it at all.
@MarkJones
It’s a subscription service. If you don’t activate it, it doesn’t do anything.

So if I don’t subscribe, it’s just like having a satellite radio that doesn’t work unless I pay? That’s fine. But what I really want to know is what’s the newest Elantra model that doesn’t even come with the hardware?
Just get a 2005 Elantra.

I already have a 2013, so I don’t want to go backwards. I’m asking how much newer I can go while avoiding the tracking systems. Simple question, just need a simple answer.
You do realize almost every company is already selling your data, right?

Yes, I’m aware. That’s not the point. What I’m asking is: What’s the newest Elantra that doesn’t have built-in tracking? Just need a year. Thanks.
If you mean BlueLink, I have a 2021 and used the free three-year trial, but I didn’t renew and it’s been fine. I think models up to 2016 or 2017 might not have it, but you should check to be sure. And honestly, I think they already have all our info, so don’t let it stop you from getting a good car.
@malawi
Appreciate the answer. I’d rather have a simpler car without any of that stuff. Quick follow-up—if you don’t subscribe, does that mean it completely stops collecting data?
