Who do you use for insurance and what are your rates?

I have a 2018 Hyundai Sonata and really like it, but finding affordable insurance has been a struggle. Progressive wouldn’t insure my car at first, Allstate keeps raising my rates because of theft concerns, The General wouldn’t take my car, and Geico wants $900 upfront plus $500 a month. Who do you use for insurance and how much do you pay?

Edit: Thanks to everyone for the advice. I checked again and it looks like Progressive will now insure my Hyundai. I’ll be going with them. Appreciate all the help!

Geico gave me a quote that was almost half of what USAA wanted.

Geico is offering me $250 a month, which is about what Allstate has me at now. I started at $180, so it’s getting harder to afford.

I think it depends on the model year. We have a 2022 and a 2023 Hyundai, and we pay under $200 a month combined for full coverage with extra perks.

That’s wild! My 2018 isn’t even one of the ones getting stolen, so I don’t get why my rate is so high.

It might be the area you live in. Do you have any tickets or claims? Even something like hail damage can raise your rates.

I live in Lincoln, NE. No accidents, no tickets, nothing. Maybe it’s a sign I should move somewhere else.

@NinaCaldwell
That’s crazy. Maybe they’re just increasing rates on all Hyundai and Kia models from 2011-2021, even if they’re not the ones being stolen.

@NinaCaldwell
I live in Lincoln too. I pay $170 a month for full coverage on a 2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser with Geico. It’s not cheap here at all.

Yeah, it’s ridiculous.

I have Geico at $250 for a 2024 Elantra SEL, $1000 deductible. It would’ve been $220 if I did the driver tracking, but I drive a work vehicle sometimes and didn’t want to risk issues with that.

@Steve1
$250 for six months?

No, $250 a month. It used to be $140, but moving a few miles into a different zip code made it jump.

I have Progressive and both of my Hyundais are insured with them. Maybe it depends on the state—I’m in Arkansas. State Farm and Farm Bureau are also good here.

I have my motorcycle insured with Progressive and like them, but when I tried adding my Hyundai, they said no. Maybe I should try again.

@NinaCaldwell
I had the same issue. Called them back a few months later and suddenly they were fine with insuring my car. Might be worth checking again.

I pay $39 a month for my 2010 Kia Soul and $63 a month for my 2024 Tucson, both full coverage. I’m in Cleveland, Ohio, and use State Farm.

That’s way lower than what they quoted me. I got a $215 full coverage quote from them.

I have a 2021 Hyundai Sonata SEL and pay $191 a month with Geico in NYC.

I have Erie. I’ve paid $115 a month for my 2017 Elantra since I got it because they have a rate lock program. My agent said repairs on Hyundais are expensive, which is why rates go up.
