2006 hyundai sonata gls v6

Bought a 2006 Sonata 4 years ago, initially loved its smoothness. Started having issues in February, found low oil despite recent change. Mechanic added oil but a month later, heard rough rattle on cold start-ups. Mechanic diagnosed it as timing chain issue, quoted $2400 for repairs. After repairs, same sound persisted. Mechanic tried new oil assembly unit kit but issue remains. Now considering removing engine to diagnose further. Asking for help as problem persists despite spending a lot already.

Frustrating rattle in my 2006 Sonata after spending $2400 on timing chain repairs! Noise persists.

Next steps:

  • Second Mechanic Opinion: Get a fresh diagnosis before major engine work.
  • Online Research: Check forums for “2006 Sonata cold start rattle” for solutions.
  • Consider Timing Chain Tensioner: Might be the culprit if chain itself wasn’t the issue.
  • Double-Check Oil: Ensure correct type and weight is used.
  • Keep Records: Maintain receipts of work done for future reference.

Hopefully, a new perspective and some online sleuthing will solve this rattle for good!
