2nd Engine Thermostat Replacement

I have a 2016 Sonata Limited with 77k miles, and I’m scheduled for an appointment next Tuesday, which I’m dreading. The service person couldn’t give me any predictions over the phone, so I’m hoping someone here might know what I can expect.

I had the engine thermostat replaced back in January, along with a couple of other minor services, and the total came out to around $550.

Now, the check engine light is back on, and the code reads P0128, which indicates another engine thermostat issue.

If I go back and they tell me I need another thermostat, I’ll be seriously frustrated.

Is there any chance there’s a warranty on the thermostat they installed earlier this year, so I won’t have to pay for it again?

Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

You should be covered under warranty for 12 months or 12,000 miles if it was replaced with an original Hyundai thermostat at a Hyundai dealership AND you paid for it.

Hyundai will guarantee their repair if the problems persist.

In the future, you can simply do it yourself for approximately $30 in an hour or two if the thermostat is the problem.

Cheap parts are thermostats. Quite accessible, too, based on the model.
