ABS brake problem on my 2024 Palisade… anyone else?

Just bought a new 2024 Palisade, and we were driving around 15-20 mph heading to a stop sign. I hit the brakes, but the ABS kicked in, and I couldn’t stop the car. It felt like the car was lunging forward while the ABS was active, and we ended up in the middle of the intersection. Thankfully, the driver on the cross street managed to stop in time, so no crash. The road was a bit rough where the ABS engaged, but the brakes seemed to work fine afterward.

I’ve already taken it to the dealer (they kept it for 4 days) and they said they couldn’t reproduce the issue, so nothing they could do. I also reached out to Hyundai, but they refused to repurchase the vehicle, saying it’s not warranted. Now I’ve reported this safety problem to NHTSA and plan to contact a lawyer.

I’m baffled there’s no recall on the 2024 Palisade for this. I won’t be buying Hyundai again after this experience. Looks like we’ll have to trade in a 3-month-old car and take a $10,000 hit. Thanks a lot, Hyundai.

I’ve read about several reports like this with the ABS on these cars engaging when it shouldn’t. This is definitely an issue that needs to be addressed.

Unfortunately, I haven’t seen any clear solutions yet.

Car shakes over bumps

Check my posts in that thread. I genuinely thought I was going to crash. I’ve experienced the same thing, and the dealership has multiple Palisades with this issue. People are scared, and yet they keep saying this is normal behavior.

@MYLES
Looks like some of my posts are missing… but they keep saying it’s just a little too sensitive.

“It usually happens at low speeds, mainly around intersections. If there are little potholes or bumps, the steering shakes like crazy, and the whole car vibrates really loud. Sometimes the brakes act up, and I can’t stop. It even happened on a bumpy gravel road in Oklahoma. When the road was a bit uneven, the SUV shook like there was a massive earthquake, and again, I couldn’t control the brakes.”

@MYLES
And that’s supposed to be normal???

Apparently it is for the Palisade… mine does it too, especially over train tracks. It’s pretty scary when it happens.

Yeah, on rough or gravel roads, the ABS can kick in really fast. That’s just how it behaves. You can either decide to trade it in or live with it.

I had this happen recently too, and it was terrifying. Luckily, I was in a parking lot and not going very fast, but I genuinely thought I was going to crash into the car in front. I’m planning to take mine in to get checked.

Also, I’ve had problems with the rear safety system. Sometimes when I’m reversing, the car starts shaking, beeping, and then slams on the brakes as if there’s something behind me, even when nothing is there. It’s a really jarring experience. I love this car, but I’m starting to regret not going with a different model.

@MasonHartley
We do love our Palisade! We actually traded in a 2020 Palisade for this one. It’s just disappointing that Hyundai doesn’t seem to want to address this, especially for loyal customers.

Did this happen more than once, or was it just a one-off incident?

It only happened once, but that was enough. After it happened, we went back and took a look at the road. There were some patches where potholes had been filled in, making it a bit bumpy, but no loose gravel or anything.

I’m dealing with the same thing on my 2024 Palisade. It’s been at the dealership for 28 days now, which puts it just two days away from qualifying as a lemon under NY law. Today, they called and said Hyundai told them the car is fine, and I need to come pick it up. But the tech at the dealership was able to reproduce the issue and confirmed it in the notes. Still, Hyundai is saying there’s no problem. I’m at a loss. What should I do next? Should I start thinking about legal action? I’m leasing from HMF, and I feel like I’m stuck with no options here.

Why isn’t this getting more attention? Should we start posting on social media or reaching out to news outlets? There must be a way to get Hyundai to address this and offer some sort of solution, even if it means replacing the car.

@Austin
This is a serious safety issue, and the more people speak out, the better. Sharing our experiences could help prevent a serious accident in the future.
