Anyone else got a high mileage Tucson?

I wrote here some time back about my 2010 Hyundai Tucson and its high mileage. Just rolled over 370,000 miles and thought I’d update. I’m hoping it’ll hit 400,000 one day.

Still running on the original drivetrain, engine, and transmission. No major repairs, just regular stuff like tires, brakes, one alternator, a coil pack, and some wheel bearings.

It’s my daily commuter car for 120 miles a day. Will check back in when I reach another milestone.

I had a 2008 Elantra that clocked over 350,000. Sold it to a friend, and he managed to add another 30,000 before parting with it. Owned it for 13 years and still miss it. Ended up getting a Chevy after that.

@Miles
How’s the Chevy treating you? Do you still miss the Hyundai?

That’s really impressive. Especially with those older engines that had some issues. Guessing you’re doing mostly highway driving?

Yep, all highway. 60 miles to work and 60 miles back on the same road.

Nice! I had a 2009 Santa Fe that reached 279,000 miles before I retired it and got a 2022 Tucson. That Santa Fe was reliable and mostly original parts too.

Which engine does it have? The 2L?

Pretty sure it’s the 2.4L with the cast iron block.

Probably made in Korea then. Those engines are solid if they’re not GDI.

@AccentAddict
My GDI started burning oil at just 38,000 miles… never again.

What kind of gas do you use?

I usually go for the cheapest. Casey’s is my go-to since it’s close to both home and work.

I’ve already put close to 6,000 miles on my Elantra in just two months. People keep telling me that’s a lot for such a short time.

Yeah, doing 3,000 miles a month adds up fast. But sometimes you don’t have much choice.

Our 2013 Sonata hit nearly 200,000 before the engine seized. Hyundai replaced it under warranty, so we’re hoping to get another 200,000 out of it now.

Mine’s up there too. Santa Fe from 2013.

Is it burning oil? How often do you change it?

It uses a little oil but not bad for the mileage. I’ll admit I don’t change it as often as I should. Switched to Castrol High Mileage at 100k and moved to 10W-30 after 200k. One of the best cars we’ve ever had.

That car’s a gem. Go buy a lottery ticket while you’re at it.

If we didn’t trade our fleet cars after 200,000 miles, I bet our Sonatas could rack up more. They’re tough and affordable to keep running when properly maintained.
