So I’ve got a 2011 Hyundai Sonata, and the engine’s been acting up. Anyone else dealing with this? Any tips on what I should do? IDK if I should go to the dealer or find a local mechanic.
Ugh, yes! My 2011 Sonata had the same issue. Turns out it was the engine bearings. Hyundai extended the warranty for this, so check with your dealer!

I heard about that! Hyundai’s been fixing it for free if it’s under warranty. It’s worth checking in with them!

Thanks! I didn’t know the warranty was extended. I’ll call them up and see what they say. Appreciate it!
Mine’s been running fine, but I heard a lot of people had issues with that model year. Definitely try the dealer first before spending a ton at a local shop.

Yeah, no harm in getting a second opinion. I was lucky my engine issue was covered under warranty, so fingers crossed for you!
Same issue with my Sonata… I had to replace the engine after 80k miles . Wish I had known about the extended warranty sooner!

Oh no! That’s rough. Did you end up paying out of pocket?
@MonicaChesterfield
Yep, unfortunately, it was before I knew about the warranty. $5k later, lesson learned.
If you’re out of warranty, you might wanna consider an independent mechanic. I got quoted way less at a local shop for a similar issue.

Good to know, thanks! I’ll keep that in mind if the dealer doesn’t cover it.
I’ve read so many complaints about the 2011 Sonata engines. Definitely a common issue with that year. Hope it works out for you!
