Anyone got a recommendation for good wheel locks?

Parking garage in Houston.

I’ve heard Houston is worse than NYC for this kind of stuff.

I don’t know anyone else it’s happened to, but there were two other cars in the same garage that had their rims stolen. The bricks they used aren’t normal either, they’re the kind you’d use for a flower bed.

@Arthur
Try to get the garage to cover the cost.

It’s the garage at my apartment complex, and they’ve got signs and lease agreements saying they aren’t responsible for theft or damage.

@Washington
What if you find your stolen rims in the aftermarket?

You’d have a hard time proving they’re yours unless you’ve got the serial numbers and can match them up.

@Magdalina
The TPMS sensors would give it away.

Yeah, the sensors have serial numbers too. But sometimes cars ‘forget’ the sensors if the wheel is away too long, and they have to relearn.

I thought this was a Toyota thread. Not sure about Hyundai’s TPMS.

I was just talking in general. With most cars, we have to reprogram the sensors if a wheel’s been off for too long.

I’ve got OEM wheel locks from my '23 Sonata N Line you can have (if you’re in the U.S.). I don’t really need them because I park in a garage. DM me your address if you’re interested.

That’s really kind of you!

That would be awesome! Sending a DM. Thank you!

@Arthur
I’d suggest getting an old-school Viper alarm with jacking sensors. That way, just bumping the car would set off an alarm.

My OEM wheel locks snapped in half when I went to put them on, but thankfully I got them off before they got too tight.

I think Hyundai’s OEM wheel locks are just McGards, but they charge double the price.

FYI, Hyundai only uses about five lock patterns for all their cars, so wouldn’t recommend them.

@Brandy
Why is that?

Because thieves can get keys for cheap at a scrapyard. If there are only five patterns, they don’t need to carry much to steal your wheels quickly.

@Amelia
Honestly, most anti-theft devices are defeated pretty quickly. Check this out: https://youtu.be/Qu8F61ITQPM?si=M2QNrY_3qFh5jV0r

@Amelia
Yeah, if a thief really wants your wheels, they’ll get them.
