After 4 years of owning my Hyundai Tucson with no problems, my car finally got broken into this week:upside_down_face: My car was empty, but they still pulled all the stuff out of my glove box. I didn’t have anything valuable, and it looks like only my sunglasses were taken. The real cost will be fixing the lock
Welcome to the club, I have a 2024 Tucson and they still broke my lock.

Dang, sorry that happened to you too I really thought I could get away with having the push start but all they see is Hyundai = easy break-in.
Locks are only meant to keep honest people out unfortunately.
I’m sorry this happened to you. Feels bad. I had the same thing; the only valuable thing they took was my dash cam. I found out you can buy a replacement door handle and lock on Amazon! They’re a very easy install if you or a friend are handy. The trick is getting a locksmith (I assume) to match the lock to your existing car key. I haven’t gotten that far yet…
@Alexy
I’ll look into that, thank you! I don’t have a dash cam at the moment, but after this, I’m thinking of getting one that detects movement inside the car while it’s off and records for about ten seconds. At the same time, I’m not sure if it’s the right move because if that feature fails, then there goes the dash cam, too.
I live in the Central Valley, California, and car break-ins are bad here. You can’t leave anything in your car; even garbage will get your window broken. It’s not really specific to Hyundai and Kia. Here, we are just grateful when we get in our cars and still have a catalytic converter. Sorry this happened to you; theirs suck.
I had my 2015 Sonata broken into in a parking garage while I was at work. They bent the window frame on the passenger door and smashed my driver-side window. Tossed out my center console just like this. I have a push start though.
Edit: I have comprehensive coverage with State Farm, so it didn’t hit my premium. Depending on what insurance you have, it might be worth talking to your agent.
@Mickey
I’m so sorry that happened to you. This also happened to me in the parking garage. Luckily, they didn’t break in through the window; they just messed with the lock. I’ll properly check in with my insurance too and see what they can do, thanks for the advice!
Happened to me but they didn’t get in, just messed up the lock. Haven’t fixed it either because I’m sure it’ll just happen again.
Someone stole my cabin air filter 3 days after I brought it home last week. They even closed the door to it after they were done.
Same thing happened to my 2019 Sonata a year ago. They just ran off with a bunch of pens, coins, and a blanket since I had nothing of value in my car. I was going to fix it, but figured it may happen again in the future (thankfully it didn’t), so I didn’t bother fixing it.
I keep my doors unlocked with nothing in it. Not worth the broken anything. And the car has GPS and a dash cam, so if you’re gonna steal the car itself: smile—you’re on camera and I know exactly where you are.
