This is my first hybrid, and I want to get the most out of it. I’m switching from a 2016 Ram Tradesman, so I have a lot to learn
It’s supposed to get 40-50 mpg, but I’m only averaging around 22 mpg right now. Will that get better? Is there a specific mode I should use? It often switches to EV, and I use eco mode.
I’d like to add a small 10” subwoofer for better bass. Would that void my warranty? Can a place like Best Buy install it?
I’m also thinking about tinting the windows. Any products you’d recommend or avoid?
Any tips or tricks for a beginner? I love this car, but it’s way smarter than me.
Congrats! I’ve got the hybrid limited model. Just a heads-up, the mileage will be lower for the first 2,000 miles while the engine adjusts. Drive gently and avoid high RPMs during the break-in period. I’m averaging 51mpg now!
Here’s a tip: if you’re in ECO mode, hold the plus paddle on the steering wheel to enable auto regen—it’s super helpful. I also made it a challenge to stay in ECO and get the engine into EV mode without driving too slow. It becomes fun once you figure out how the car switches to pure EV.
Oh, and get a rear bumper protector. I scratched mine with luggage. They touched it up and it looks fine now, but I wish I’d gotten a protector earlier!
@AminaCooks
This is good to know. I’ve had my hybrid limited for about a month now and I’m at 600 miles. My overall mpg is 37, but longer trips are better at around 42mpg. Short trips are killing the mileage though.
@Beatrix
That sounds familiar! Mine improved a lot after 2,000 miles. Now at almost 10,000 miles, I’m getting 50mpg on my daily commute. I even did a big road trip recently—2,000 miles in two weeks—and managed 46-48mpg throughout.
You should consider tinting the windows—it’ll feel less like you’re in a fishbowl. I’d recommend at least 15% all around with a sun strip on the windshield, as long as your state isn’t too strict about it!
I’m still learning how to use all the features too. I got the gas model last week and I’m averaging 30mpg—mostly driving in the city. It’s been a good experience so far!
