Different Slide Pin Locations on the Front Caliper?

I got distracted trying to fix the front brakes and pads and forgot where position each slide pin was in. I’m not sure why, but I think the pin with the rubber bushing was up top.
There are contradictory reports everywhere I look.
Does anyone have concrete knowledge?

I’ll just remove one rear at a time when doing the rears, replacing it afterward.

It’s easy to mix them up. The pin with the rubber bushing usually goes up top. That little bushing helps with vibration dampening, which makes sense up there. I also had to double-check it once—made the same mistake. So, yeah, I’d say go with that.

Generally, the pin with the rubber bushing goes at the bottom to help with brake pad retraction.

But, always double-check your specific car’s service manual for the most accurate information. Taking one rear caliper off at a time is a smart move to avoid confusion.

For front brakes, the pin with the rubber bushing is typically placed in the top position to handle more of the pressure and movement. This setup helps to cushion and prevent vibrations. However, it’s crucial to check your vehicle’s specific repair manual, as configurations can vary by make and model. Removing and replacing one pin at a time, as you plan to do for the rear brakes, is a practical method to ensure correct reassembly. If you’re uncertain, referring to your repair manual or consulting a mechanic for your specific vehicle will provide the most accurate guidance.
