Does anyone know what this rattling at around 2000 RPM noise is?

Hi folks…,

I’m hoping someone can help me figure out a rattle noise I’ve been hearing in my 2018 Hyundai Elantra 2.0L automatic. The rattle only happens around the 2000 RPM range and tends to occur when I’m accelerating. However, it doesn’t always make the noise while cruising, which makes it even more puzzling.

It seems to be coming from the area near the heat shield or the engine, specifically close to the inside of the car. I can hear it quite clearly from inside, and it feels like it’s coming from under the dashboard near the windshield or around the pedals.

The strange part is that the noise doesn’t only occur during acceleration; it also happens when I’m not pressing the gas or brakes, and even while decelerating.

I want to note that there are no other symptoms—no loss of power or any other strange noises, just this annoying rattle.

Has anyone experienced something similar or have any ideas on what this could be?

I had a really annoying rattle that was somewhat similar. It turned out that a bolt holding the AC vents was loose after my car was towed to the shop, and it just needed to be tightened… Does the rattle happen all the time, or only when the engine is cold?

It happens all the time, even when the engine is cold. Where was the bolt you mentioned?

Honestly, I have no idea. It took the shop three weeks to find it. It was somewhere in the front of the engine bay. I would suggest checking around and tightening every mount you can find.

If the shop took 3 weeks to find it odds are its somewhere under the dash.

If it’s only happening at a certain RPM, it could be something vibrating at that frequency. It almost sounds like plastic hitting metal, so you might want to check for a loose piece under the dash or look above your pedals.

I’m sorry I can’t help; it’s honestly hard to say. I’m just here because I own a 2017 model and want to know what to look out for in case mine starts doing this.
