Does the 2024 Santa Fe XRT unlock when you walk up?

I have a 2024 Santa Fe XRT and I’m wondering if the unlock-upon-approach feature is only on the Calligraphy model. I don’t see anything in my ‘door’ settings for this.

Having a toddler makes this feature seem really helpful. I’d like to just walk up, have the car unlock, and open the rear passenger door without having to grab the front handle first or dig out my key fob or phone. It’s a small thing, but when you’re juggling a toddler, bags, and everything else, it feels like a big deal. Anyone know for sure?

I have a 2025 Calligraphy and there’s no unlock-upon-approach. The mirrors unfold, but the car stays locked.

Yeah, that’s how mine works too.

Same for my 2022 Calligraphy. Mirrors fold, but no automatic unlock.

Switching to a car without automatic unlocking has been an adjustment for me. My old 2009 Toyota Rav4 was easier in that way. I still love the Santa Fe, but this has been tricky to get used to.

Even on the Calligraphy model, there’s no automatic unlock on approach. You have to grab the door handle to unlock.

If you grab the handle twice, it unlocks all the doors. The first grab just opens the driver’s door.

@MotorMan
Thanks for explaining! That helps.

I know about the handle feature, but it feels like a hassle when I’m juggling my toddler. Sometimes I come up from the back of the car, and I have to go to the front to unlock, then back to the rear door. Or if I come from the driver’s side, I still have to circle around. I was hoping for a feature where the car just unlocks like it locks automatically when I walk away.

@MissNicklaus
You can try unlocking the doors with the app or key fob before walking up. I know the ‘unlock dance’ can be annoying, but it’s not that bad once you get used to it. I don’t think there’s an auto-unlock feature for this car.

@MissNicklaus
Yeah, I guess it depends on how you approach the car.

@MissNicklaus
You can unlock it using the app and even start the AC while walking up. Works on the Calligraphy model.

@MissNicklaus
Before you know it, your toddler won’t be a toddler anymore. Time flies too quickly.

You can do this if you set up your digital key on your phone. I tried it, and it worked.

I think this feature is on some models but not all.

@Amanda
Not true. Sounds like you’re guessing to sound smart.

If you’re using a digital key, this feature should work automatically. We turned ours off because it kept opening the back hatch when we weren’t even close to the car.

You can disable just the back-hatch function and still use the rest of the digital key features.

I’m not a big fan of the digital key idea either. I’ve heard about this issue too.

@MissNicklaus
I was unsure about the digital key but gave it a try. It’s been great for the past month with my hybrid Calligraphy. Before that, I just used the app to unlock, which worked fine too.
