HELP! Current Car: 2025 Elantra SEL Sport

Alright, I went to the dealership yesterday to get an early oil change before the 1,000 miles, as advised. The dealership was talking about an additional $80 to switch to a 2025 Elantra SEL Convenience, which comes with more tech, or for another $130, I could get a 2025 N-Line.

After checking out the SEL Convenience, I loved the big screen clusters and the sunroof, but I noticed I’d lose the sportier aesthetic of my current model.

  • No black gloss interior
  • No black gloss spoiler
  • No leather-wrapped wheel or shift knob
  • Unavailable car color on this lot
  • No wireless Apple CarPlay and no wireless fast charging

What should I do?

Is that an additional $80 or $130 per month? That’s a significant increase, especially considering the hit you’ll take on trading it in. Why didn’t you opt for those higher trims initially?

I wasn’t aware of them at the time. My sales lady showed me the wrong car for my quote, and I didn’t know those trims existed.

Just keep in mind you’ll likely take a big financial hit if you go through with it. I’d personally keep the car you have now because it seems like money wasted otherwise, but if you’ve got the budget for it, do what you want.

Buying a new car based on monthly payments is a terrible way to negotiate. You’ll get taken advantage of.

Just get your oil change done and move on. Once you understand total pricing—not just monthly payments—come back to us with your question.

Let’s not talk about moving out :joy::eyes:. I probably pay double what you do for your tiny mortgage. Just focus on my question, please. I don’t care about total pricing; if I want something, I’m going to make it happen.

The very fact that you’re considering this shows a lack of financial literacy. They probably laugh at you once they cash your check.

What gives you the idea that I lack financial knowledge? Outside of rent, I’m financially free to do whatever I like.

>No wireless Apple CarPlay

Just so you know, no current Elantra trim offers the larger center screen with wireless CarPlay or Android Auto. The wireless feature is only available on the smaller screen. I bought a small USB dongle that converts it to wireless functionality.

Also, remember to focus on total numbers rather than just the monthly payments. How much are they offering you for your trade-in? What’s the cost of the new car? Are both loans for the same term? You’ll likely notice a loss of several thousand dollars in the trade.

@Lilyharper
Could you please share the name of the dongle you use?

Just search on Amazon for ‘wireless CarPlay adapter’ (or Android Auto depending on your phone). It’s around $50.

@Lilyharper
Thanks for the tip!

The SEL Convenience comes with a leather-wrapped wheel and shift knob, along with wireless fast charging.

That’s not correct. I looked into both cars and also checked the online specs.

Look at the specs here.

@Dipna
It most definitely does… Check this brochure.

I physically examined both cars, and there’s no premium leather in the 2025 Elantra SEL Convenience. That link doesn’t provide much information.

@Dipna
That’s the brochure listing every option on each trim…
