I’m following up on the thread about deactivating ISLA (link to thread).
So, according to the August 2024 update release notes (link to release), there’s a new feature called “Speed Limit Information.” It’s supposed to let us disable the ISLA sound while keeping the flashing icon by just long-pressing the mute button. Since the false speed limit alarms have been super annoying, I decided to give it a shot.
The update installed fine, and I even got a message confirming that I now have “Speed Limit Information.” But there’s a catch: it doesn’t show up in the menu, and long-pressing the mute button does nothing.
To make things worse, there’s now a new “safety” alert popping up — “Wrong way detected” — which is also bugged. I made a quick video showing what’s happening: video link.
Anyone else experiencing this, or have ideas on what’s going on?
Edit: Before doing the update, I reached out to Hyundai Customer Support to check if the update included anything not listed in the release notes. They said “no,” and I believe them—they probably just didn’t know.
After the update, I contacted them again to report the missing feature and the unexpected new alert. They redirected me to Hyundai EU, who then directed me to my national representative. My national rep then sent me to the local dealership, and, as expected, the dealership had no answers or solutions for software issues. Basically, all I got was a “not our problem” response.
Yeah, the update does not work for my Kona 2023 Hybrid. And for everyone else having the same model. I only heard it works on the Electric Kona 2023 models. I don’t know if the situation is the same for all other Hyundai models.

Hey, do you have the same experience as I did?
You installed the software, got the pop up that you now have the feature, and you don’t?

I actually want this feature to work. I have the settings enabled and only get a flashing symbol and no audible notification. We have lots of speed traps and it’s easy to go from a 55mph zone to one small stretch of 35 mph on a highway and not notice the sign.
@HyundaiEnthusiast
I think it’s nearly impossible for this feature to work reliably. I turned it on yesterday for the first time in a year, and at one point, it was showing a 10 km/h limit on the highway and 100 km/h in the city. For ISLA to function correctly, you’d need ideal infrastructure, clear weather conditions, no trucks obstructing street signs, and top-tier AI from Hyundai—which, frankly, they don’t have.
You can read your owner’s manual. They are presenting ~20 situations in which ISLA malfunctions. So it’s not just my experience, it’s official.
That’s why I actually don’t like it at all. This broken feature is not for us; it’s just for chasing regulations made by old people who don’t understand technology and its limitations.
I try and make a video with this as well when I have enough time.
These vehicles are sophisticated and collect information on owners driving habits. Wondering if Hyundai sells the information collected on owners driving habits to insurance companies… Anyone know?

They do that in the USA, but for now it’s voluntary (at least that’s what they say). If you want a “cheaper” insurance, you allow them to collect driving data. They build a driving score, and you pay based on that. I expect they do it anyways.
@Dipna
I do live in the USA. I’ve heard of people’s insurance premiums increasing based on insurance companies purchasing from automotive companies the information about owners’ driving habits. I haven’t heard about Hyundai selling such information and was wondering whether others knew.
