My partner and I are looking to get a new 3rd row SUV, and we’ve narrowed it down to three options: Palisade, Pilot, and Traverse. We like all three for different reasons, but our main concern with the Palisade is that it’s a Hyundai. We’ve heard about some rough patches for Hyundai lately, and we don’t know anyone who’s really said, ‘Man, I love my Hyundai.’ We’ve had our Honda and Chevy for around 8-10 years, and we’d like to keep our next car just as long. Any advice or insights? We think the Palisade is a great car, but just unsure about the reliability over the years.
I had a Sonata for 5 years, then switched to a couple of Mercedes leases before buying a ‘22 Palisade as soon as the pandemic MSRP markups ended. Honestly, I love it! It’s got a ton of room and plenty of cup holders. My only complaint is that the mirrors don’t fold in automatically.
I’ll say this every time this question pops up. I had a 2017 Pilot and it was a total nightmare—$17k in repairs before 100,000 miles, including two transmissions! I wouldn’t touch a Pilot again. Post-2016 models just haven’t been reliable. Now, I have a 2022 Palisade, bought it used earlier this year, and it’s been great. No issues at all, and this is the longest I’ve gone without a major problem in over 5 years.
I had a 2014 Santa Fe and Hyundai replaced the engine for free at 130k miles due to a recall, even though it was past the warranty. That made me a loyal customer for life. Hyundai’s warranty is the best among its competitors.
We just got a 2024 Palisade to replace our old Ford C-Max (it had 200k miles). The Palisade is incredible value for the money, especially the Limited trim we went for. Adaptive Cruise Control blew me away with how smoothly it works, especially on highways. Even the third row is heated and reclines a bit, which is awesome.
Two minor complaints: cup holders could be a bit better, and no wireless CarPlay, even though other Hyundai models have it. But otherwise, we love it. If you’re on the fence, I’d suggest taking it for a test drive.

Well said. I also found the sunglasses holder in the armrest a bit awkward, but that’s a minor thing. I’m happy with my purchase. The Expedition was just too far out of my budget. The Palisade has plenty of room, and I don’t regret skipping the Explorer, which felt cramped in comparison.
@David
Wait, there’s a sunglasses holder in the armrest? I didn’t even know that… is it a special spot or just a tray?

Yeah, it’s just a tray. Not the best spot but it keeps them from getting scratched.
@JakeHyundaiJourney
The engine replacement was due to a recall, so that’s why it was covered even after the warranty expired. It’s standard practice for recalls.

You can still use CarPlay on the Palisade; you just need to connect it with a cable. It’s not wireless though.

Yeah, they mentioned that their issue was it not being wireless, so it’s safe to say they know it can be connected via cable.

Wow, sounds like someone’s having a rough day! If calling out a small oversight makes you feel better, I hope it helps. Take care and feel better soon, xoxo.
We had a similar list, but after doing our research and test driving, we crossed off the Traverse because of too many issues with the new generation. Plus, the front seats don’t have power adjustments unless you go for the top trim, which is overpriced. I liked the ride, but I’m not sold on a 4-cylinder.
The Pilot got cut after the test drive because the seats were uncomfortable, and the ride felt bumpy. The Palisade, on the other hand, had both front seats powered, plus heated and ventilated second and third rows. The ride was smooth, the seats were comfy, and I didn’t need the top trim to get all the features I wanted. And it’s a 6-cylinder, which I prefer. The warranty is just the cherry on top. Every car has issues, but for what I needed, the Palisade checked the most boxes.
I get it… I had my doubts about brands, too. But after checking out the Palisade and Telluride, and seeing the reviews, I’m so glad we went with the Palisade. It’s awesome—my kids love it, and it’s perfect for family vacations.
Here’s what I like: heads-up display, backseat shades, tons of cup holders, comfy captain’s chairs, good touchscreen, power-up and down third row, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, and heated/cooled seats.
My only complaints: no wireless CarPlay (though I hear the newer models have it), and the remote start shuts off as soon as you open a door, which is super annoying when you’re loading up. My old Ford handled that better.
So yeah, my gripes are small. I’d say the Palisade is my favorite car I’ve ever owned.

Weird, every remote start I’ve ever used would just turn off if you pressed the brake without the key. Seems like a simple way to handle the whole theft issue, but Hyundai’s approach sounds a bit frustrating.
Honestly, all brands have issues these days. You can find complaints across every manufacturer’s forums. They make thousands of cars a year, and there are bound to be a few that have problems. I had a Kia Sorento Hybrid that ended up being a lemon, but that didn’t stop me from considering Hyundai. We bought a ‘24 Palisade two weeks ago and love it so far. For Hyundai and Kia to still be in business, they must have more happy customers than unhappy ones.
Overall, Hyundai offers more bang for your buck than the other two options you mentioned.
Absolutely love ours. We used to be GM loyalists, but this is just on another level. Hyundai really packs in the features for the price, and the warranty can’t be beaten.
We bought used ‘22 palisade sel limited in March White w/ grey leather, took rack, fwd, 35k miles. Just took to dealer yesterday for oil change. They said rear struts were bad & need replacing. I drive like a grandma and have only put 5k miles on it. Anyone else have this happen?
We choose it over the Acura bc it was peppier and prettier, and cheaper. I’m curious for those who have ventilated seats…I was told only calligraphy had that…true? Also, anyone else have vibration in the accelerator …kinda like pronounced road feel, all of the time? My Honda and Toyota just don’t feel like this car.
