I hate the 10 minutes remote start timing in Hyundai 2023 Elantra

Can’t even warm up my car within 10 minutes, that’s not long enough for anything. Really don’t understand why it’s not 15 minutes for the remote start to fully warm up the car; by the time I get out there it’s either already turned off or not even hot enough. Not worth even using. Very frustrating. Is it possible to extend this maybe aftermarket? 2023 Elantra.

10 minutes won’t warm up your car, no, but it’ll get all the fluids moving so when you start driving the heater will warm your car much, much faster. Car heaters (ironically) work off of the car’s coolant, so if the car is just idling, it will take forever to heat up.

You’re spending a lot more on fuel to warm it up on idle than the minute or so of driving, on top of the extra wear from constant idle. But of course, it’s your car, so \owo/

@KonaKing
20 minutes of idling uses about 16 ounces of fuel. I think it’ll be fine.

Really…10 minutes is not enough to warm up your car…makes zero sense.

Why don’t you just start the car again?

I can but can’t keep doing that every time. It should be at least 15 minutes.

That 10 minutes of running though did warm up the engine; maybe not enough to warm up the cabin but when you get in it eventually the heater will kick on much quicker vs if you had just started it cold when you got out there.

The fastest way to warm up your vehicle is to drive it.

Thank your state politicians who decreed that it’s not OK to leave your vehicle running for more than ten minutes. So anything from the factory must comply with that.

Aftermarket remote starts don’t have to comply… yet. I’ve heard that will change in 2026 for new manufactured units. And possibly any that can receive remote updates.

There’s times where it doesn’t even run for 10 minutes, but it’s free for the next 2 years so when I have to start paying I’ll be looking for a remote start with the actual fob.

It’s the same with the actual fob, it’s programmed to only run for 10 minutes.

@William_Johnson
I’m sure they can program it to run for 20 minutes.

How? Is it possible on a 2023 Elantra?

It’s not on the factory remote start. It’s an emission regulation that it cuts after 10 minutes max.

If you want longer, you need an aftermarket remote start. But as someone already stated, it serves no purpose but to wear your engine more. Just drive the car and it will heat up much faster.

If you went to some place other than the dealer to get your remote start installed, assuming you have a remote start, give them a call and ask if it’s possible.

@Michael
Yeah, I might but doubt it’s possible.

I’m confused because my 25 SEL Sport has remote start on the fob and no Bluelink connectivity at all whatsoever.

@MonicaChesterfield
I have a 2020 Santa Fe luxury and no fob but Bluelink; don’t know why they don’t add heated seats to the auto start, heated steering wheel comes on, no heated seat option.
