I’m at 36,000 miles and the dealership is suggesting I get my transmission serviced. They are also recommending brake pads, rotors, and fuel treatment. Is this something that should be done or are they just trying to sell me things I don’t need?
I’d skip all of that. Sounds like a scam to me.
Fuel injector cleaner for $300? That’s pretty high. You can buy it for about $20. Same goes for the brakes, it’s about $80 for pads and rotors. What do you think of those prices?

But at only 36K miles, why would you need new rotors?
@Jony
It seems unlikely but if the person rides the brakes a lot, drives aggressively, or lives in a hilly area, it’s possible. I would suggest upgrading to Power Stop carbon ceramic pads with drilled and slotted rotors. They worked well on my truck which towed heavy loads, and also on my wife’s CX5.
@howdyrobert
How long do those ceramic pads and slotted rotors usually last? I’ve heard that slotted rotors wear out pads faster.

My wife’s CX5 has about 50,000 km on her front brakes, and they still have plenty of life left. Typically, I’d expect around 75-80,000 km from them. The rear brakes wear quicker on her car because Mazda put tiny rear brakes to make it feel more sporty. If you use good quality pads, they last a long time.

Thanks for sharing your experience.
If they’re charging $300 for fuel treatment, then charging for brakes and rotors at 36k miles is highly suspicious. Stay away from that shop.
That’s really high for everything. My local dealer charges about $120 for the fuel induction service. What is the transmission service exactly? For the brakes, $300 is typical for a shop to replace pads and rotors per pair. Even the oil change seems overpriced, I just had a full synthetic oil change at my dealer for $82.
These prices are way too high! Normally you wouldn’t replace both front and rear brakes at the same time.
I would run, don’t even walk, out of that service department. They’re clearly trying to rip you off. I just don’t trust dealers anymore, honestly.
Dealerships will do anything to take your money once the warranty is over. They’re just looking for ways to make more from you.
All of these services at only 36k miles seems way too early. Are these really necessary?
It’s all about scaring you into paying for unnecessary services. After your free oil changes, you should only trust a mechanic you know.

Did you actually pay for the wipers at $209? That seems crazy expensive for just wiper replacements.
@Benaiah
No, I didn’t, I just checked the price and decided against it.

Good choice. Anything over $50 for wipers and labor is too much.

I asked them to do it without asking the price first, which was my mistake.
@Hyundaifanatic
That’s rough. Should’ve asked first.
