Is the Platinum Autoguard Package worth it?

Hi everyone

I’m leasing a 2025 Kona with the trend package for 3 years, and the dealership’s finance department offered me an appearance package that includes fixing dents, dings, scratches, etc., during the lease. They claim it’s better than other packages because repairs can be done anytime, not just at the end of the lease.

This will add about $55 CAD to my monthly payment.

Is this package really worth it, or do they usually deny most claims when the time comes?

Attached a brochure image if anyone wants to check it out. Thanks.

Most of these “protection packages” finance departments sell are mostly just money-makers for the dealership. Might be worth thinking twice about it.

I bought a similar package for paint issues. When I reported a paint chip from a rock, they said it was ‘normal wear’ and didn’t cover it. Then they told me to buy touch-up paint… but they don’t sell it in my car’s color (24 Santa Fe Rockwood Green). Really felt like a waste—don’t make the same mistake .

@EntourageExpert
Exactly, they get you with the fine print… these warranties are practically useless most of the time.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Definitely sounds like I should be cautious .

It’s just a way for them to make more money off you. I’d skip it.

Feels like a waste. Better off putting that $55 into savings or towards your actual payment.

A) Don’t focus on monthly payments—look at the full price.

B) I managed to get almost 50% off a similar package because I park on the street and have kids. Ended up paying $1,800 for stuff like paintless dent repair, some interior protection, and a ceramic coating (I park under trees and get sap/bird droppings).

So, you can negotiate these a lot .

These appearance packages usually aren’t worth it. For things like engine or transmission, maybe, but not appearance. Just decline it and save yourself that extra $55.

$55 a month adds up to $660 a year. Personally, I don’t think it’s worth it, especially if minor dings or scratches don’t really bother you.

Honestly, they don’t, but since it’s a lease, I’d have to cover any damage charges at the end, right?

@lizbeth
Yep, so it’s a question of paying $660 a year for the package or just paying any lease-end penalties if there are any.

I’d skip it. Better to put that $55 each month into savings. If you don’t end up needing it, you’ll have $1,980 saved after 3 years. I doubt you’ll hit $2k in damages within that time.

You’re right—that’s pretty much what I was thinking!

Thanks for helping me confirm it.

These packages have high margins for the dealer. If you’re going for it, definitely negotiate.

Coverage limits are in the brochure, so things like minor scratches are okay, but nothing deep. It’s like insurance—you’re paying for ‘just in case’ and might not even need it.

If you’re worried about end-of-lease charges, this lets you fix issues along the way. But consider if you’d rather save and handle it yourself.

If it includes maintenance, it could be worthwhile.
