Love my Hyundai but why is there a 20 minute update while I'm driving?

I hit ‘Later’ on the update notification at least twice, turned my car back on and the screen was black with no music.

How does it get the internet for the update?

It has an embedded SIM (eSIM) with wireless connectivity, like an IoT device.

I left my 2023 Hyundai Sonata in the garage, turned on the electronics or accessory mode, and let it update. Took about 25 minutes.

Same place it gets the internet for you to unlock it from your phone.

Some updates take time, but at least they can install overnight while the car’s not running.

“Attention: Emergency. Everyone must evacuate now. You have 20 minutes to reach a safe distance.”

10 points if you can guess the reference.

I feel like it’s Resident Evil, but don’t they say something about a self-destruct button?

Don’t forget Jones!

Must be nice. I have to download it to my laptop and then use a USB stick like it’s 2001.

OP, maybe try reading the manual? Anything with wheels and updates usually has an option to update while parked. Teslas have had how many updates now? You can update your computer while sleeping, so why not cars?

I just did the update on my 2022 Palisade, and it took 2 hours with a USB.

Blue Link usually tells me when updates are ready, and I can schedule them through the app, but this last one started randomly while I was driving.

If you read the notice before starting the update, it will tell you what to expect.

You have to confirm if you want to update now, and there’s always an option to do it after turning off the engine. So don’t complain.

Blame the weird car in front of you, lol.

It’s the sport/stop feature update.

How much is the average monthly cost for 2 vehicles?

Haha!

I’ve never seen mine do this, but I have a 2019 Tucson.

Hyundai’s software is not the best. Every time I open the Blue Link app, it asks me to verify my address. I hit ‘looks good,’ and it still asks again the next time.

Terrible cars.
