Honestly, Hyundai wasn’t even on my radar when I started car shopping, but here we are.
They weren’t for many people until recently.

What do you think is the reason? Personally, I see they have a good price/quality/guarantee/design balance.

They’ve had a few catastrophic engine failure problems (amongst other problems) in the recent past that got them in a few class action lawsuits and really lost consumer confidence. So they got it together, redesigned their engines, hired some big-time European engineers, started hiding their logos more and more, and used their vertical integration to offer more features at lower prices than the competition. I also have never looked at Hyundai as a serious brand before, and now I’m picking up my Tucson on Monday. Hopefully, my assessment is right!
@AccentAdmirer4
We had a 2017 1.6T. The engine was fine, but the DCT was worse than my Nissan’s CVT in terms of driving lol.

I believe it was the previous generation 2.4 that was problematic.
@AccentAdmirer4
The 2.0, 2.4 etc. are all problematic. The 2.4 has a manufacturing defect on Hyundai/Kia’s part (same engine was used by Mitsubishi and Chrysler/Dodge I believe—not fantastic in those use cases, but they didn’t suffer the same failures as the Korean manufactured ones). Most gasoline direct injection motors from the Hyundai/Kia group are problematic unfortunately.
@Michael
Past tense*. They’re using different engine models now.
Same here, just bought an i20 N Line coming next week.

How is it so far? I love the self-drive assistance.

No issues. Had to get new tires. They were dry-rotted. I traded in a ’19 Sonata for it.
They’re good cars. Keep up with the oil changes and regular maintenance and you’ll be good to go.

I will! I bought the maintenance package with it. Every 3,750 miles, they will do everything the book says.
@Auto
That’s good! I do the same on my 2017 Hyundai Sonata 2.4L, and it currently has 199,200 miles on it .
Yeah, same here! I just happened to walk into the dealership one day and have had my Elantra for 2 years now and couldn’t be happier with it.
Been driving the hybrid for about a year, not a bad vehicle.

It’s not a bad vehicle; it sounds like it didn’t fill your expectations.

It leaves a lot to be desired on some aspects but considering the price it’s unmatched, imo. You get more than you pay for; that’s the overall impression. But not considering price, it’s “not a bad vehicle”. There are definitely better ones for a lot more $ though.
