Random Hole in 2021 Elantra Hybrid Bumper?

Hello all,

I just bought a 2021 Elantra Hybrid, and I noticed a hole in the bottom right bumper, just below the brake light. I’m curious about what this hole is for because I can’t find any info on it in the manual or parts list.

It’s not part of the exhaust, and there’s nothing electrical connected to it. It seems to lead directly to the frame, and there’s no threading inside either.
Does anyone know what this hole is for?

That hole is where you lower your spare tire. In your roadside kit, there should be a long, thin pole that fits into it. When you turn it counterclockwise, the spare tire under your car lowers using a crank system. This is how smaller cars store their spare tires.

If you are the original owner thread’s deeper. 2nd or 3rd owner… it got pulled hard enough I’m surprised your hood opens

I would think that is a mounting point for a tow hook, but the no threading has me think no?

My friends and I thought that, at first, but the lack of threading was throwing us off, looking more into it you’re right and the threadings just been stripped I guess…???

That’s where the oil slick and smokescreen come out of
