I’m stuck deciding between the gas or hybrid version. I’ve heard the wet dual-clutch transmission could end up damaging itself over time, especially for someone who drives a lot in stop-and-go traffic. Is that true? If you’ve got the gas version, have you had any problems? What kind of traffic do you deal with—rural, heavy city traffic, etc.? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
I’m really happy with my hybrid. I noticed a slight power difference between gas and hybrid when I test drove both, but the hybrid still drove great, especially at low speeds. Plus, the fuel mileage has been fantastic even before the break-in period.

I was a bit worried about the power and acceleration.

The electric motor gives you instant torque.

Just remember it’s slower from a stop in ECO mode but faster in Sport mode. If I need to get up to speed fast, I switch to Sport, then back to ECO once I’m good. Still getting over 25 mpg even in Sport mode.

I prefer Smart mode.

It learns your driving habits and adjusts after a few thousand miles.

With gas prices where they are, and who knows what’s coming next year, gas mileage is becoming more important.
I went with the gas version and haven’t had any issues in 11,000 km and 4+ months. It’s got great power and smooth shifting, even in heavy traffic. I think the talk about the wet DCT being bad for traffic is just talk—it’s been fine for me.
That said, I would’ve gone hybrid if it was available at the time. I love the fuel economy of my Tucson hybrid, and I’d have gone that route with the Santa Fe if I could’ve.
