Should I Keep My 2016 Elantra GLS After Engine Replacement?

I’m currently waiting for Hyundai Canada to approve an engine replacement for my 2016 Elantra GLS due to a connecting rod failure. The car has 168,000 km on it.

I recently had to pay for a major AC repair as well.

Has anyone else gone through an engine replacement like this?

I’m feeling conflicted—part of me wants to get rid of the car because I’ve lost trust in it and worry that another major issue will arise soon. But I’m also considering keeping it and driving it for as long as I can.

Should I hold on to it after the engine replacement, or is it time to move on and get something else?

Thanks in advance for your advice!

With a new engine, your car could potentially run well for several more years without major issues. I would prefer you to Keep Your Elantra. Besides, you are already familiar with your Elantra, its quirks, and driving dynamics.

Keeping your 2016 Elantra GLS after an engine replacement can be wise if the car is otherwise in good condition. Evaluate repair costs, reliability, and your long-term needs.

Many Elantra owners have faced engine issues, and while it’s a major setback, it doesn’t necessarily mean the car is a total loss.

I’d say it depends on a few things: how attached you are to the car, your budget, and what you plan to use it for.

If you love the car and it fits your needs, giving it a second chance with a new engine might be worth it. Just be prepared for potential future costs.

On the other hand, if you’re feeling uneasy about the car’s reliability or if you need something different, it might be time to move on.

Explore your options, consider your budget, and don’t rush into a decision.
