I test drove a 2022 Hyundai Sonata Limited with about 46,000 miles. The ride was smooth, but I noticed some damage to the bumper and hood, and the front camera for the 360° view was misaligned. The dealer offered a $300 discount but said they wouldn’t handle the repairs because their service department would charge them double what I’d pay to fix it myself. The car’s total price is around $23,000, which works perfectly with my budget.
I’m waiting for a repair quote before deciding if I should buy it. Should I just fix the grille and get the hood repaired at a body shop? To current owners of this car: How do you like it?
Dealers don’t pay double, that’s bs. They just don’t want to fix it because it’s cheaper to give you a measly 300 discount. If you get an estimate, have them lower it by that amount plus some for being without a car while it gets repaired. Personally if they won’t fix it I’d pass on it.
@jordansmith
I’ve bought many cars in my life. The best ones I got was when I made no compromises and was willing to drive some distance. Don’t buy this car, dealer is full of bullshit. There are better dealers out there where they make it top priority to sell the car without any “hidden costs”.
OEM parts like front bumper cost upwards of $1k, hood ain’t cheap, paint job ain’t cheap. Then just drive it as is and when you sell it they will want a similar steep discount.
That’s expensive for such high mileage. For reference, I have a 2016 Hyundai Sonata (Hybrid) Limited and I’m at about 90k miles! I do love my car…enough to just drop $1600 into it!
I’d ask for $1500 off the car. $300 is nothing and tell them most mechanics are quoting you $2000 to fix it. So what you should do is ask for $2000 off the car and “settle” on $1500 off.
If it was $300, they’d do it themselves. I’m willing to bet with paint, it’ll be probably around 2k with parts and labor also. I’m sure they don’t wanna have to disclose the damage to Carfax also. How’s that look? $300 is a straight-up insult.
Yup nope. Had a fender bender a few months ago. Body damage really isn’t that bad but just busted the second sway bar link since. Think my frame is bent. Also, wasn’t a reported accident so wouldn’t be on car fax if I were to sell it. Just saying. Nope. And 300 total insult!! I mean that is nuts what good does that do you.
