Think I got a solid deal on a '24 Calligraphy…

We were shopping around for an SUV for my wife and had it down to the Telluride SX and Palisade Limited. I’m always trying to save a bit, so I usually buy slightly used cars, and this search was no different. We found a '24 Calligraphy being sold as used at a Honda dealer (a big name with several brands under their wing) with only 2,100 miles on it. The Carfax listed it as having one owner, but when we got to the finance part, it was a mess. Apparently, the car had never been officially titled because it was used by the GM of a Hyundai dealership they also own and always had dealer plates. They said there’s an issue with Honda dealerships titling cars as first owners for brands they don’t sell. After 4 hours of them trying to sort it out, we finally got to drive it home.In the end, we got what’s pretty much a brand new car for $42k, and with tax, tag, and title, it came to $46k. Not bad, especially for Florida, where you often get stuck with all those dealer add-ons.

Did the CARFAX show if it was ever titled? If it was, you won’t get the 10-year/100k mile powertrain warranty, just the 5-year/60k one. Did they sell it to you as used or new?

I was wondering about that too. Would be a real shame if they missed out on the standard warranty.

Nicely done! I actually bought two Hyundais in the past couple of weeks, and both deals felt great. Here’s hoping they serve us well for years!

Just keep in mind, if it’s not certified, you might be missing out on that 10-year/100k mile warranty.

Only Hyundai dealerships can sell cars as first-owner vehicles. So, if it wasn’t bought there, that’s probably why things got complicated.
