Thinking of Getting a Kona… Is It Worth It?

I’m a college student and needed a reliable car to make my daily drives easier. My old Jeep Wrangler gave up on me, so I started looking for a mid-sized SUV. The Jeep was fun but drank fuel like crazy and was mostly a beach car. I wanted something efficient and dependable. Checked out the Bronco Sport, Subaru Crosstrek, and Toyota RAV4… but when I finally got in a Kona, I knew it was the one.

It was raining during my test drive, and I took a turn a little too fast. Not once did I feel like the car would slip or spin out, unlike my Jeep, which did that all the time. It felt solid. Now that I’ve had it for a while, here are some things I (and my passengers) have noticed…

  • Super smooth ride. My friends say 70 mph on the highway feels like 25.
  • More space than it looks. The back seats fold down, and I fit two snowboards flat.
  • CarPlay is a lifesaver.
  • Tons of safety alerts like blind spot warnings and collision detection. Annoying at first but actually helpful.
  • The design is sharp. The rear spoiler looks cool, and the black trim gives it a clean look.

This is my 2023 Kona SEL in Cactus Fern. I got the rims blacked out, and next up are the bumpers to match the whole look.

I love my 2023 Kona Limited. Such a fun car to drive .

I have a 2022 Kona Limited, and I love it. I don’t drive much, so even though I got it in July, I’m still figuring things out. Before I got mine, I barely saw any, but now I notice them everywhere. Mine is dark grey, looks sporty, and drives really smooth. Love the all-wheel drive and safety features. Fuel economy is great—not as good as my husband’s Sonata, but way better than my old car. Enjoy your Kona .

I have a 2024 SEL, and it’s amazing. Such a solid car .

I have a 2018 Kona, and I love it so much. It’s been a great car.

Same here! My 2018 has been awesome. The Crosstrek was too pricey for me, and after researching, I found the Kona had better service costs.

@PeterJames4
Yeah, Crosstreks are super popular at my school. But honestly, I like having a car that stands out a bit.

Got a 2020 model. I was planning to sell and upgrade in two years, but it’s been so reliable that I decided to keep it.

Totally agree about the handling in the rain. Never had any hydroplaning issues with my 2022 Kona. Only problems I’ve had are with the radiator and my horn randomly stopping, but nothing major.

I have a 2020 Ultimate in Lake Silver. So many features I’m still discovering. The adaptive cruise control is amazing—super responsive. The heated steering wheel is a lifesaver in the winter. Calls automatically go hands-free when I’m driving, and Sport mode makes it feel more natural. Great little car.

That red trim at the bottom looks sick! And the blacked-out look is so clean. What year and model is that?

Damn, that is a beautiful car. I was asking because of the bumpers…
