Ticking Noise Coming from Instrument Panel

My 2019 Santa Fe’s instrument panel has been making an erratic ticking noise for a while now. This noise occurs when the car is running, whether or not the a/c is running, and when the run stop is activated and the motor stops.

Despite the fact that the noise is there every day, Hyundai has investigated it on multiple occasions and says they are unable to reproduce it.

Please watch the video that is included, and if you have any experience with this, please share it with us.

Hey Puck, It’s frustrating when a dealership can’t diagnose a recurring issue. Here are some steps to help:

  1. Document the Noise:
  • Record it using your phone to provide evidence.
  • Note when the noise occurs, how often, and any patterns you notice.
  1. Explore Potential Causes:
  • Climate Control System: The noise might come from HVAC components.
  • Electrical Components: Look for loose wires or connections in the dashboard.
  • Instrument Cluster: There could be an issue here, though it’s less likely.
  1. Seek a Second Opinion:
  • Consider consulting an independent mechanic who specializes in Hyundai vehicles for a fresh perspective.

I’ve had a similar experience with a persistent ticking noise in my vehicle that continued despite multiple visits to the dealership. In my case, the noise was eventually traced to a loose component in the instrument panel, which wasn’t initially noticeable. If Hyundai hasn’t been able to reproduce the issue, it might help to provide them with a video of the noise, as you mentioned, to pinpoint the problem. Documenting the exact conditions under which the noise occurs can also be beneficial. If they still can’t resolve it, consider getting a second opinion from a trusted independent mechanic who might be able to diagnose the issue more effectively.

A clear video might help an independent mechanic diagnose the problem. It could be anything from a faulty relay to a weird electrical glitch.
