Why does my 2018 Sonata's oil light flash when I brake or turn?

I had this issue too, and my engine failed two weeks after the oil light started flashing. The dealer said it’s common. Luckily, it was under warranty and got fixed, but it was a hassle.

It was the same year as yours, by the way.

It could be low oil, or it might be an issue with the bearings.

My 2016 had this issue because it was burning oil. How many miles have you driven since the last oil change? Check for leaks underneath.

Hyundai and Kia cars are known for burning oil quickly. If you’re under the 10-year/100,000-mile warranty, ask the dealer for an oil consumption test. They’ll check the oil after a set number of miles to calculate consumption. My son’s engine was replaced under warranty at 98,000 miles, but there was a long wait because this is such a common problem.

Is the oil low? My old Lexus used to do this when braking if the oil level wasn’t high enough.
