Whenever I pass the airport, my phone disconnects from the screen. I have no idea why this keeps happening. It’s frustrating because sometimes I have to turn the car off just to use the screen again and listen to my music. Does anyone know what causes this problem?
Are you connected via cable or wirelessly? Sometimes when you pass by airports, a wireless connection can be interfered with by signals from the airport towers. If it’s wired, maybe you hit a bump that knocks the cord out.

It’s wireless. That makes sense. Is there really no way to fix this?

Just avoid driving by the airport.

Some posts on this issue suggest ensuring your WiFi isn’t roaming for open networks or set to 2.4 GHz. Otherwise, it might be something you can’t fix except by plugging in your phone.

I had this issue with my wireless CarPlay dongle. It was really frustrating. Switching back to a wired connection completely resolved it for me.

Could be due to metallic window tint, but that might affect your phone’s reception too. By the way, Apple CarPlay looks worse than Android Auto.
Airports emit a lot of RF. Given where you’re driving, you’re likely between an ADF beacon and the airport, disrupting most wireless signals.

ADFs aren’t used much anymore. It’s probably a localizer signal.

Could this be due to Dynamic Frequency Selection? I know CarPlay mainly uses the 5GHz spectrum. Maybe it’s detecting a protected signal type and backing off the channel, causing the disconnection.
My Kona disconnects at a specific spot on the highway where there’s a huge cell tower. I think something there interferes with my WiFi. It doesn’t happen in my sister’s Elantra or anyone else’s non-Hyundai. It’s so annoying because it doesn’t always reconnect. If it does, it might not let my phone reconnect to CarPlay. It’s frustrating.

I have the same issue every time I pass a cell tower.

You sometimes have to park and restart your phone to reconnect, right? That’s the worst! My Venue finally got fixed and doesn’t do that anymore. Does your Kona still have the issue?

Yep, I have to stop and turn the car off for a few minutes to get it to reconnect. Otherwise, it’s either connected without allowing me to change music or acts like my phone was never connected. It’s a mess. I haven’t taken it anywhere to fix because I thought this was just how it is. I guess I could troubleshoot more, but it won’t even read a USB cable, so I’m stuck with this.

That’s exactly what my Venue did! It was so frustrating! I never bothered to troubleshoot or ask Hyundai, but then it just stopped happening about a month ago. I hope your Kona gets fixed spontaneously too!
Why are you driving on the highway while playing with your phone? A passenger could film without putting others at risk due to your distraction!

People are distracted drivers and for some reason it’s glorified online. Everyone thinks they’re perfect drivers and can’t possibly crash.

What are you, 89 years old? Can’t take a quick video without crashing? The car has a built-in screen with many menus you can use while driving, so don’t act like filming means you’re going to cause an accident. Chill out.

The built-in screen warns you not to use it while driving. If this is your attitude, please don’t drive.

And how many people actually don’t touch it while driving? Step into reality; people do use their phones while driving.
