Woke up this morning, got into my car and suddenly it’s saying low pressure on all my tires except for one? How’s that possible?

I had no psi warning yesterday. The temp has dropped this morning to 38F; could that affect the reading? Could the thing that gauges the pressure be broken? Could I actually have 3 tires with holes at the same time?

I went to my local gas station and used the air compressor. A couple of the tires did read 27. But the other 2 did not. Should I be worried? Do I need to get all my tires checked out? I inflated them all just to be safe, but it’s still reading these readings when I turn the car on.

What do you all think? I have a Hyundai Venue by the way.

It’s the weather.

Thank you that’s what I was wondering because I didn’t see why else they’d all suddenly be low haha.

Air contracts in cold and expands in heat, so a sudden drop in temp will cause tire pressure to drop a bit.

Good to know, thank you.

I’d be willing to bet the one that is higher was already a bit higher, and if parked outside that’s the one that got more sun exposure.

@merrickzedeck
Actually, since you mentioned that the side that was showing lower is pretty close to the house which would get no sun and the other side that was showing higher is away from the house so where it would get sunlight, so you very well could be right.

It does the reverse as well. Increasing temperature increases the pressure as those gases expand.

That’s why you can get nitrogen fills. Nitrogen doesn’t expand and contract as much with normal temperature changes.

You’re already filling your tires with 78% N by using ambient air. It’s a ripoff.

@solesfin
It’s free for me, so it’s really quite impossible to be a ripoff. The bigger advantage is that the leak-down time is about 1/2 the time, so I’m at the perfect pressure more of the time, improving mileage. I’m well aware of the content of our atmosphere. Costco is a great place to get tires. Their inventory turns so quickly that you get fresh stock, their install costs are good and includes a road hazard warranty. And you get nitrogen fills right there in the parking lot. Win-win-win.

I never knew that, wow.

Tire pressure changes dramatically when temps fluctuate. Nothing to worry about unless it continues to happen.

Great, thank you. I had a feeling maybe it was that but just wanted to double-check with people that might know more than me haha. I’ll keep my eyes on it to see if it keeps happening. The pressure light actually just went off. So that’s good, I guess haha. Thank you again.

@Nathaniel_Richards
Don’t worry; I had no idea this was a thing when I got my first car either. I was baffled and thought someone stabbed all my tires or some shit.

I was wondering that as well but my main thing was that I didn’t notice a huge difference when driving. I figured if someone slashed all my tires I think I’d be able to notice when driving haha. I’ll be honest Google is what told me it could be the temperature.

Because when the temperature goes down, pressure also goes down. Most likely your other tires were already low initially.
