Hi, I’m thinking about purchasing a 2023 Sonata SEL with 10k miles for $21k. How are your Sonatas holding up? I’ve come across mixed reviews and would appreciate your input since this will be my first car.
Kia/Hyundai had all sorts of problems with pre-2020 2.4L and 2.0T engines.
This 2023 will come with the new as of 2020, 2.5L engine. It has been modernized, both GDI and MPI to avoid carbon buildup. It is said by one Hyundai engineer it was intended to address the 2.4 shortcomings…and so far so good. There was some injector issues 2021/22, but likely supply chain, not engineering.
On paper, this 2.5 and the 3.5V6 should be reliability leaders in the lineup. No turbos, DCT, CVT, a normal AT. But as only 5 years has passed I would say long term, like 10 year, 150k miles, is too soon to tell for sure.
I would be very ok recommending it powertrain wise in the Hyundai lineup.

My 2015 was a piece of shit. Glad they’re attempting to fix their garbage engines.

K&H problem…is not that they had problems, they just let it go for 10 years without a fix.
Like Honda has big issues with their 3.5 V6. Ironically it too is rod bearing problems.
And like Toyota is having issues with their 3.5TT…also bearing related.
But both seem, especially Toyota, committed to fixing the issue, nip it in the bud.

Definitely make sure you get the extended warranty…
Absolutely love mine
We have a '23 Hybrid Limited. It’s been great, no problems at all. Only thing I don’t like is how low the passenger seat is and the height is not adjustable.

There should be a lever to pump up & down to raise the passenger seat. I have a 23 SEL convenience. Driver’s seat is power & passenger is manual raise & lower. It is a long lever on the side of the seat. You pull up to raise & push down to lower.
The newer Sonatas (20-25MY) have been pretty great overall.
2022 Sonata Limited here. Genuinely the best car I have ever had and I think I’ll stick with Sonatas for years to come. The car looks great, has awesome tech, and gets me 500mi+ on a fill-up. I commute 1 hour each way to work 4 days a week and drive on average 2600mi a month. HDA is an absolute game changer for my commute. Just keep up on maintenance and you should be fine. I was able to get mine used with 11k miles and have ran it up to 40k in a little under 2 years. No regrets. Try to buy CPO if you can, mine came with a 10yr/100k miles warranty from the dealer.
I have a 2016 Sonata! I adore it so much! With 91k miles!
I’m on my fifth Sonata, a '21 Limited. None have died before; I just moved on. I just took this one coast to coast courtesy of OpenPilot. I generally loved it, but the bottom cushion was too firm. Our butts hurt a bit more after each day of driving.

I do. I have the 3X and the 3. First started using it five years ago.

I really want one, but that price is super high lol, plus I’m a little hesitant on it not crashing into anything.
I have a 2023 Sonata SEL too with 14,000 miles. I bought it new.
Firstly, it’s very comfortable and spacious. Lot of legroom and headroom.
Good tech and features too – including blindspot sensors, built-in navigation, and Android Auto (but wired).
Fuel economy is okay.
I’ve driven it as much as 350 miles a day without problems.
So far it seems to be doing the job and is reliable.
I love mine (2024 N-Line Sonata) to death, but keep in mind I don’t drive it that much. I take it to the gas station up the road to get smokes once per week, and I drive to my doctor’s office which is about 1.5 hours away every 2.5 months.
It is by far the best car I’ve ever had (so far) and it is just so pleasant to drive, made the driving experience a million times better. HDA and SCC are life-changing. The sound system is amazing and crisp. It’s nice and quiet on the inside which keeps driving stress very low. I love the display and how easy it is to fiddle with things when driving without taking your eyes off the road. All the features and bells and whistles are useful. And it’s comfortable.
Have they fixed the oil-burning engine design flaw?
